Horticulture

We are from an Agricultural background and now own and operate an Avocado Orchard in Northland so are well in touch with the industry.

Whether you are wanting to broad acre spread fertiliser across your orchard, target tree rows from the air or perhaps you need a foliar feed applied to your crop our Drone could be the ideal solution.

We understand that many industries including Horticulture have the means and ways of applying Fertilisers and Sprays to crops in an efficient and direct approach. We also understand that some of these applications need to happen in a particular way to get the best outcome ie: spraying pesticides into an Avocado orchard using a ground based machine applies the spray to the underside of the leaf giving it the best results.

There are times however that current conventional approaches are not the most efficient, cost effective and productive ways to make some applications. We see the use of our Drone as another tool in the toolbox to be utilised as required for these particular applications. Listed below are a few examples but we are always keen to try new things and help to improve operating practices so get in touch for a chat about your operation.

Cleaning of artificial structures

  • Artificial structures are expensive so keep them operating at their best to fully utilise the capital that has been invested.
  • Glass and Poly houses - Moss mould and Lichen treatments to improve the efficency of these structures through better light penetration. Improved yeilds and quality are why these structures were built in the first place!!. - Keep them clean and performing at their best.
  • Netting - We can apply Moss, Mould and lichen products to all sorts of netting. Kiwi fruit in particular have a window where the plants are dormant in early winter which means our product can be applied without any damage. We can quickly and easily cover large areas. The growth on these nets is detrimental in many ways:
    • It adds extra weight/pressure to the structure.
    • It blocks much needed and desired sunlight
    • It can reduce the air flow trough the netting.
    • Reduced sunlight means less performance from your crop dropping yields and quality.
    • Lichen in particular is acidic and will degrade material more quickly.
  • Vertical walls /Net - We can spray vertical structures. These help to allow light into the ends of the rows and allow air to pass through the walls as they were designed too - not impeded by growth

Foliar Feeds/ Plant Health onto crops

  • These can be targeted to rows so there is less wastage. Particularly when soil conditions are wet and muddy we can fly products on to keep your crops moving.

Growth Regulators

  • Some of the best growth regulator applications are made from the air. The product being applied to the canopy/ growing nodes of the plant, where they are required means there is no wastage trying to blast it up there from the ground. Reducing the amount of expensive chemical required and a better application means a win all round.

Ground based
crops

Mahi Drones applying fungicide on ground crops

  • Applications of Fungicides and foliar feeds during the wet winter months. - Our machine can produce a 130micron droplet allowing us to effectively apply fungicides to a large range of crops. No ground compaction issues or machinery getting stuck! This could be critical to your operation to get the correct application on at the right time.

Fertiliser and seed spreading

  • We can spread fertiliser directly over rows if required or broad acre spreading for narrower crop rows. There has also been lots of interest in symbiotic ground cover species rather than just grass as ground cover. We are able to spread all types of seed so get in touch to discuss your specific requirements.

Drones are capable of many job scenarios
